Welcome to the Kelly Garage Doors news page. We will be updating this section with garage related articles, new products, recent projects and almost anything garage door related. Our first article is relevant to the new year and a fresh, organised garage space. Often, our garage can become a dumping ground that is out of sight and out of mind. The beginning of each new year is a perfect time to get some of those odd jobs done around the house. If you find yourself running an obstacle course every time you need to enter the garage, then it might be time to dedicate a weekend to cleaning up the storage and getting rid of anything you no longer need. Here are some useful ideas to consider before the task:
KEEP IT, SELL IT OR BIN IT
Start by creating a section with items that you use on a regular basis and place them in a temporary location labelled “Keep it.” Don’t create this pile too far away from the garage because they will be moved back in again. These items usually include gardening tools, sports equipment and tools. Consider items that are in good condition, but you no longer use, for selling. Buy, swap and sell groups are popular online and easy to navigate. You can also donate these items to op shops. For any other remaining junk, BIN IT!
ZONE IT
After reducing the unnecessary clutter, it’s time to categorise the items you want to store by creating different zones. Typically these could consist of gardening, recreational/sport, seasonal, tools and rarely used. Once you have labelled your different zones and identified their usage over the course of a year, it’s time to choose storage options and what is best suited to each zone.
STORE IT
Wall system storage is easy to install and provides easy access for frequent use.
If you have space for a work bench, then tools can be stored in drawers and cabinets. A pegboard wall system above your workbench is a great idea for frequently used tools.
Overhead storage or shelving systems are a great option for items that are not frequently used.
With these ideas, hopefully your garage is looking a lot more spacious and tidy for the new year.
